The 25 Questions Every Airbnb Guest Asks (And How to Answer Them Once)

Guest checking their phone while standing in a rental kitchen

I've stayed in a lot of Airbnbs. Probably too many. And I can tell you that no matter where I am — a beachfront place in Tauranga or a cabin in Colorado — I end up asking the same questions.

Every guest does.

The specifics change (different WiFi password, different checkout time), but the categories are identical. Which means hosts are typing the same answers over and over, for every single booking.

Here's the list. I've grouped them by when they typically come up.

Arrival day (the first 30 minutes)

  1. What's the WiFi password?
  2. How do I get in? (door code, lockbox, key location)
  3. Where do I park?
  4. Is there a specific check-in process?
  5. Where are the extra towels and sheets?

The first evening

  1. How does the heating work? (Or the air conditioning, depending on where you are.)
  2. How do I use the TV / streaming setup?
  3. Where's the closest supermarket?
  4. Any food delivery recommendations?
  5. Is the water safe to drink from the tap?

During the stay

  1. How does the washing machine work? (This is a big one for international guests. Every country has different machines.)
  2. Where do I put the rubbish? Recycling?
  3. Is there a dishwasher? How do I run it?
  4. Where's the iron / ironing board?
  5. Are there extra blankets?
  6. How does the coffee machine work?
  7. Where's the bottle opener / corkscrew?
  8. Can I use the BBQ? Where's the gas?
  9. Is there a hairdryer?
  10. What's the pool/spa situation — any rules?

Checkout

  1. What time is checkout?
  2. Do I need to strip the beds?
  3. Where do I leave the keys?
  4. Do I need to take the rubbish out?
  5. Anything else I should do before I leave?

The pattern

Look at that list. There's nothing surprising on it. You already know the answers to every single one of these for your property. You've probably typed most of them out dozens of times.

The problem isn't that guests ask these questions — it's that there's no easy way for them to find the answers without messaging you.

A guestbook technically has this information, but nobody flips through a binder at 10pm looking for the recycling instructions. They just message you. Or worse, they don't ask at all, get it wrong, and leave a slightly annoyed review.

I built StayAnswered specifically for this. You enter your answers once. Guests scan a QR code and ask questions in plain language. They get your answer instantly — in 43 languages — without messaging you.

If you want a head start, this list of 25 is a pretty solid template. Most hosts can get through them all in about 15 minutes.
